Making a 2 Piece Plaster Mold

Making/Casting the Top 1/2

Build a wooden casting box assembled with screws.
Make sure the box is large enough to fit the object (red pepper) allowing for space around all sides.
Pack wet clay around object and bury bottom 1/2.  Seal seams of box with clay.
Level and smooth the clay and use a tool handle to make impressions in corners for mold keys.
Spray object with release agent (Pam cooking spray).
Mix plaster of paris to cover object and to the top of wooden box.
Vibrate to settle plaster around object and remove air bubbles.
Let plaster set for 24 hours and the disassemble wooden box.
Remove mold and peel off clay.
Clean off excess clay and inside of wooden box.
Place entire mold into wooden box to cast other side (top 1/2).

Making/Casting bottom 1/2

Reconstruct frame.  Seal seams of box with clay and perimeter of plaster mold to prevent plaster seepage.
Brush release agent on object and plaster (PF Soap) to prevent plaster from sticking.
Mix plaster of paris to cover object and the top of wooden box.
Vibrate to settle plaster around object and remove air bubbles.
Let plaster set for 24 hours and the disassemble wooden box.
Remove and pull apart halves.
Remove object and allow mold to dry for several days before use.
